Practice of New Energy Storage Applications

Zhao Xuefeng, Chief Technical Expert of Daqing Oilfield Co., Ltd., pointed out during the discussion that firstly, it is necessary to focus on the performance degradation of new energy storage in low-temperature environments in northern oil fields; The second issue is the difficulty in supplying power to the monitoring and energy storage system in high-temperature and high-pressure environments during oil and gas field extraction; The third issue is whether it is possible to achieve 100% clean power supply through green electricity and energy storage mode for remote desert oil fields.

2. Analysis of the New Energy Storage Market

Experts present generally believe that energy storage technology is a key support for the green transformation of oil and gas fields. At present, lithium-ion batteries are still the mainstream technology for energy storage applications in oil and gas fields, but it is necessary to focus on solving the problem of significant performance degradation of lithium-ion batteries in low-temperature environments; Sodium ion batteries demonstrate unique adaptability in extreme low temperature scenarios in western oil fields; Flow batteries have become the preferred solution for long-term energy storage due to their long cycle life advantage; Compressed air energy storage has significant potential for application in high-power operation scenarios in oil and gas fields due to its high power output characteristics.

The bottleneck of lithium-ion battery development

·Oil and gas fields belong to high safety requirements scenarios, with significant differences in consistency between lithium battery cells, which can easily lead to the risk of thermal runaway, and the presence of reignition characteristics after combustion poses certain safety risks.

·In the harsh environment of oil and gas field exploitation, the capacity attenuation is significant at low temperatures, and the cycle life attenuation is severe at high temperatures. The performance of high and low temperatures still needs to be improved.

·At present, the global reserves of lithium resources are limited and unevenly distributed (60% concentrated in South America). As a major consumer of lithium mines, China's external dependence exceeds 70%. With the rapid development of the new energy industry, the supply-demand contradiction of lithium resources continues to intensify.

The meeting reached an important consensus that energy storage technology, as the core supporting technology for the green and low-carbon transformation of oil and gas fields, urgently needs to accelerate the process of technological iteration, upgrading, and large-scale application through an innovative mechanism that deeply integrates industry, academia, research, and application. Based on this consensus, Guochuang Center will deepen cooperation with China Petroleum Group Management Cadre College (Guangzhou) to jointly promote the industrialization of energy storage technology.
