In this new position, Buchner will lead Wolfspeed's global sales and marketing organization, with a focus on utilizing the company's next-generation silicon carbide (SiC) equipment for production on its vertically integrated 200mm manufacturing platform. His appointment comes at a critical moment as Wolfspeed strengthens its focus on product innovation and equipment production, reflecting the company's leadership in expanding silicon carbide manufacturing to meet global demand. This appointment also supports Wolfspeed's strategy to expand its customer base in diverse high growth markets, including automotive, renewable energy, industrial power systems, and AI driven data infrastructure.

Prior to joining Wolfspeed, Buchner worked at Infineon Technologies, where he served as Senior Vice President of Marketing for the Power and Sensor Systems division, responsible for strategic communication, partner management, distribution marketing, digital marketing, and marketing operations for a $3 billion enterprise. In his over 20 year career, he has held senior leadership positions at Infineon, Micron Technology, and other technology companies, with extensive experience in silicon and silicon carbide power solutions, business development, and global customer engagement. Attracting world-class sales and marketing executives like Matthias at this critical moment highlights Wolfspeed's commitment to seizing huge opportunities in the future, "said Robert Feurle, President and CEO of Wolfspeed. His global leadership experience in silicon and silicon carbide technology, covering automotive, industrial, and other competitive markets, will help us strengthen customer relationships and expand into rapidly growing areas such as artificial intelligence data centers, renewable energy, grid infrastructure, and aerospace and defense. With Matthias joining our team, Wolfspeed is in a very advantageous position to transform our vertically integrated silicon carbide platform into sustainable profitable growth. ”Buchner's appointment further strengthens Wolfspeed's leadership team as the company continues to focus on improving operational execution, expanding production capacity, and expanding its position as a global leader in silicon carbide technology. I am delighted to join Wolfspeed at a significant moment for this company and industry, "said Matthias Buchner. Wolfspeed's profound expertise in the production of silicon carbide devices has set industry standards for performance and quality in today's competitive landscape. In our joint efforts to accelerate the global transition from silicon-based technology to silicon carbide technology, establishing strong and trusting relationships with our customers will be my focus from the beginning. ”Wolfspeed has recently completed a strategic refinancing plan that strengthens the company's balance sheet and prepares it for sustained profit growth. At the same time, Wolfspeed has rationalized its global production footprint to meet demand and improve capital efficiency. This includes plans to close its 150mm equipment manufacturing plant located in the Durham campus by the end of 2025, as well as the decision to halt the development of the proposed equipment manufacturing plant in Saarland, Germany. These actions simplify Wolfspeed's manufacturing business around its next-generation 200mm silicon carbide platform and support the company's long-term focus on operational excellence, productivity, and profitability. Wolfspeed has invested in state-of-the-art next-generation facilities in the United States, including advanced materials factories in North Carolina, equipment manufacturing factories in New York, and equipment packaging factories in Arkansas. These sites collectively provide ample capacity and flexibility to efficiently and reliably meet customer needs from an integrated US region.
