The "Research on New Energy Storage and Grid Integration Coordination Technology" project of State Grid Hunan Electric Power Research Institute focuses on the research of the grid interaction capability of technologies such as flow batteries, new energy storage coordination interaction and grid connection detection technology, and new energy storage economy. Among them, low-cost sulfur iron flow batteries are a key demonstration carrier for flow batteries. State Grid Hunan Electric Power Research Institute, Central South University, and Zhonghe Energy Storage will carry out deep cooperation on them. By constructing a multi technology comparative testing system, the inherent safety, long cycle life (over 15000 times), charging and discharging efficiency, grid integration ability, and long-term energy storage economy of sulfur iron flow batteries will be systematically verified, providing empirical data support for the large-scale application of sulfur iron flow batteries on the power supply side and grid side.
The successful operation of this demonstration project not only verifies the technical feasibility of the sulfur iron flow battery, but also promotes the complete closed loop of "technology research and development engineering verification industrial application". With the iteration of technology and the realization of economies of scale, this technology is expected to become an important support for the efficient integration of "source grid load storage" in the new power system, promoting the energy storage industry to move towards a safer, more economical and sustainable development direction.
