1、 Starting with ambitious goals

Kaifeng Times New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. was officially registered and established on May 13, 2021, and its development history can be regarded as a race between technology and time.

At the beginning of its establishment, the company was tasked with solving the industrialization problems of vanadium batteries. After introducing basic stack technology from the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the team's primary challenge was how to achieve mass production of core components that are automated, intelligent, and low-cost - which requires completely independent research and development breakthroughs.

Surprisingly, from the construction of the factory on July 10, 2021 to the production of the first fuel cell on December 7, Kaifeng Times completed the entire chain from foundation laying to production in just 8 months, setting a remarkable "Kaifeng speed" in the industry.

Behind this miracle is the strong support of Kaifeng State owned Assets: Kaifeng Guotou Group invested about 300 million yuan to solve infrastructure such as land and factories, while the technical team of Pingmei Shenma Group became the backbone of research and development. This innovative model of "government research enterprise" laid the foundation for the initial breakthrough.

2、 However, industrialization is only the starting point.

In June 2022, the company ushered in a critical turning point - the successful one-time operation of the 6MW/24MWh all vanadium flow battery energy storage demonstration power station, marking it as the fifth enterprise in the world and the only one in Henan to master the full set of technology, and entering the first tier of vanadium battery field.

This breakthrough stems from a deep restructuring of the innovation mechanism: the company implements an incentive mechanism of "everyone is a project leader", linking salaries to projects and bonuses to achievements, giving researchers full autonomy.

By 2023, the team has expanded from a team of three to over a hundred people, with nearly half of them holding doctoral or master's degrees. They have applied for a total of 71 patents and achieved complete independent research and development in core materials such as bipolar plates, building the first domestically automated production line for vanadium flow batteries.

At the same time as technological iteration, market layout is accelerating synchronously: following the operation of Pingdingshan 24MW/96MWh energy storage power station, a 300MW/1200MWh independent shared energy storage project will be signed in Yuzhong County in 2024, with a total investment of 1.6 billion yuan and a production capacity of 300MW/year, aiming for a 3GW production line target by 2025.

Despite being labeled as "state-owned holding", Kaifeng Times has shown rare market vitality. In its equity structure, state-owned capital such as Kaifeng Guotou and Pingmei Shenma account for a significant proportion, which brings about funding and resource security, but also raises questions about the flexibility of the institutional mechanism from the outside world.

But the company breaks the shackles of traditional state-owned enterprises with the "project leader responsibility system", transforms innovation into competitiveness through an integrated production, sales, and research system, gradually reduces the full lifecycle electricity cost, and highlights the cost-effectiveness advantage of vanadium batteries in the long-term energy storage track.

Nowadays, standing at the intersection of ecological protection in the Yellow River Basin and the national strategy of urbanization in Zhengzhou and Kaifeng, Kaifeng Era is relying on the east wind of Henan's "reform and opening up to develop the city", evolving from a technical follower to an industry standard setter.

3、 Future prospects

Its development trajectory confirms a truth: in the wave of energy revolution, only by integrating institutional breakthroughs, technological autonomy, and strategic foresight can we move from "Kaifeng speed" to "Kaifeng height" and truly shoulder the mission of "building a new Henan brand in the field of energy storage".
